Supervision
I welcome master students, PhD students, and Postdoc researchers to work with me on the following topics:
Determinants of welfare state development, social policy expansion/retrenchment
Comparative social policy, with particular interest in non-contributory pensions, cash transfers, and health
Impact of welfare policies on poverty and inequality
Welfare regimes at the national and sub-national level
Multilevel governance of welfare states in unitary and composite states
Geographical interest: Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain (I am also open to learning alongside young researchers about other countries/regions)
I work with quantitative and qualitative methods such as qualitative comparative analysis, regression analyses (logit, TSCS, multinomial, FEM, etc), principal component analysis, process tracing, causal inference, and interviews.
Currently, I am supervising three PhDs on universal basic income, disability policies, and a comparative analysis between Puerto Rico and the Canary Islands. Every year, I supervise several Master thesis, mainly from the Master in Political Analysis at the Complutense University. I am open to supervising more PhD students.
Feel free to contact me if you want more details on the scholarships we have at the Complutense University and those from other institutions in Spain. Email: gicruz@ucm.es
